Abstract

This study aimed to identify the reality of organizational silence of both types (defensiveness - compliance) among administrative workers at Kuwait University, and its relationship to the spread of job burnout, weak organizational commitment, and poor job performance among them. To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive analytical approach and the questionnaire were used as a tool for collecting data, from the study sample which consisted of (194) administrative workers at Kuwait University. The results of the study concluded that defensive organizational silence exists to a low degree among employees, while acquiescent silence exists to a moderate degree. It also showed a low degree of presence of the negatives that were surveyed to the extent its presence among administrative workers at Kuwait University, represented by the following: job burnout, weak organizational commitment, and weak job performance. The results also concluded that there are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between the responses of the sample members about the reality of the presence of organizational silence of both types (Defensiveness - Compliance) among administrative workers at Kuwait University, which is attributed to the gender variable, in favor of female workers, while it was found that there were no statistically significant differences attributed to the nationality variable, and the number of years of experience, and it was also shown that there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (α ≤ 0.05) between the responses of the sample members regarding the prevalence of job burnout, weak organizational commitment, and weak job performance among administrative workers at Kuwait University, which is attributed to the gender variable in favor of female workers, while it was found that there are no statistically significant differences attributed to the nationality variable, the number of years of experience. Finally, it was shown that there is a significant correlation at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) between both types of organizational silence (defensiveness - compliance) among administrative workers at Kuwait University on the one hand, and between job burnout and weak organizational commitment on the other hand. The study also recommended the need for the university administration to pay attention to encouraging employees to submit innovative ideas and proposals, and to find mechanisms that guarantee all employees to present their opinions and suggestions without any fear or deterrent of any punishment or negative reaction from the administration, and to focus on holding workshops between the various administrative levels at the university to listen to employees’ opinions and suggestions freely and transparently.
