Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the relationship between body dysmorphic disorder and depression among women visiting plastic surgery centers. The study sample consisted of (110) women visiting plastic surgery centers. To achieve the study objectives, the study tools were adopted, namely the Beck Depression Inventory consisting of (21) questions and the Body Dysmorphic Scale consisting of (34) items, which were applied to the study sample. The descriptive correlational analytical approach was used. The results indicated that the level of body dysmorphic disorder among women visiting plastic surgery centers has poor social adjustment and a sense that people look at their bodies with astonishment and surprise, and that the level of depression among women visiting plastic surgery centers is low. The results showed no differences in the level of depression according to the age variable at levels (20-30) compared to the age group (31-40) and the age group (41-50), and there were differences in favor of the age group (31-40) compared to (41-50). It also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in the level of symptoms of body dysmorphic disorder among women visiting For plastic surgery centers, depending on the age variable, the results showed a direct relationship between body deformity and depression, as the correlation coefficient reached (0.22), which is a statistically significant value. Based on the results of the study, a number of recommendations were made.
