Faculty Academic Staff s’ Attitudes Toward Distance Education and their Relationship to Some Variables

This study aims to reveal the attitudes offaculty academic staff s’ attitudes in Jordanian universities towards distance education and their relationship to a number of variables such as the type of university (private, governmental), the nature of the course, the gender of the teacher, and the style of education (distance, blended). The researcher prepared a scale consisting of (46) items that was distributed to the study sample of (318) faculty members, distributed according to the variables of the study, and they were selected using the cluster random method. After applying the study, its results revealed that the attitudes of faculty members in Jordanian universities towards distance education were neutral. The results revealed the existence of an effect of the gender variable, in favor of females, on the attitudes of faculty members towards distance education. It also showed that there were differences in their attitudes due to the variable of the nature of the course, in favor of the humanities specializations. In addition, the results showed that there was no effect of the variable of the nature of education style, and found that there was no effect of the variable of the type of university (governmental, private). The study concluded with a number of recommendations related to the results of the study to develop attitudes towards distance education.
