Abstract

The study concluded that the study of the ancient persuasive prose discourse in the Umayyad discourse as a model presented a definition of the concept of persuasive discourse and clarified its strong relationship with the rhetorical lesson. The study also touched on the concept of persuasion in rhetoric and its images, the most prominent of which were analogy, division, representation, the use of reality in persuasion, the use of the Qur’an as a means of persuasion, as well as the use of Arabic poetry as a means of persuasion. The study aims at comprehending the mechanisms of the use of persuasive discourse in the Umayyad period being described as a comprehensive technique that seeks to convince the receiver with the content of the sender's discourse. This study showed that the Umayyad speeches had included in their content mental persuasion through the use of preachers to them.
