Teaching Arabic before and after Islam: Reading and Writing "A Historical Study"

The study discussed the reality of teaching the Arabic language reading and writing among the Arabs in the past, especially after the revelation of the Holy Qur’an. It reviewed historically the stages of language education and its two tools: reading and writing and the reasons that led to language education. The study showed the concern of Muslims for teaching Arabic language and facing the difficulties in front of its learners, especially the non-Arab learners. It also clarified the measures taken by Muslims in order to teach the language, and the manifestations of interest in it.
The study relied on the information from the most important old and new books, as well as the recent studies that searched in teaching Arabic and the researchers' opinions The results of the study showed that the reason for the interest in teaching reading the Arabic language was in order to perform rituals and worship, which led to the preservation of the Arabic language and facilitating learning to read and write in front of the learners.
