Abstract

The current study aimed to determine the level of psychosomatic illnesses among adolescents with disabilities (motor, auditory, and visual), and to examine the differences in the level of psychosomatic illnesses among the selected sample in light of the variables of gender and type of disability. The study sample consisted of (73) male and female adolescents with motor, hearing, and visual disabilities, for ages (12-18) years. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher developed a scale for psychosomatic illnesses where validity and reliability indicators suitable for the purposes of application to the Jordanian environment were reached. The results of the study showed that the level of psychological illnesses was low, and that there were statistically significant differences in the level of psychosomatic illnesses due to the gender variable in favor of males, and the presence of statistically significant differences in the level of psychosomatic illnesses due to the variable type of disability (motor, auditory, visual). The study recommended conducting and developing counseling courses and programs targeting groups of adolescents with disabilities in schools and centers to reduce psychosomatic disorders among adolescents in general and adolescents with disabilities in particular.
