Abstract

The study aimed to explore the level of philophobia and professional ambition and the relationship between them among Yarmouk University students. The study was based on the descriptive correlational approach. The sample consisted of (538) male and female students from Yarmouk University, selected by the convenient sampling method, during the summer semester of the academic year (2023/2024). To achieve the objectives of the study, the philophobia scale and the professional ambition scale were prepared as data collection tools, and after ensuring their validity and reliability, they were applied to the study sample. Three categories were adopted to judge the level of philophobia and professional ambition in the sample, which are low level (1-2,33), medium level (2,34- 3, 66) and high level (3,67-5). The results showed that the level of philophobia among the study sample was medium level, that their level of professional ambition was medium level and that there was a positive, statistically significant relationship between philophobia and professional ambition among the students at Yarmouk University. The study recommends the necessity of conducting more studies on philophobia among University students in light of some demographic variables such as gender, age, academic degree, academic specialization, academic achievement, etc., and conducting a specialized experimental study aimed at designing counseling programs that reduce the level of philophobia among University students.
