Social Media Addiction and its Relationship to Cyberbullying among Academically Backward Students at the University of Nizwa in the Sultanate of Oman

The current study aimed to examine the relationship between social media addiction and cyberbullying among students on-probation at University of Nizwa in the Sultanate of Oman. The study sample consisted of (140) male and female students who were selected randomly. To achieve the objectives of this study, a cyberbullying scale was developed consisting of 28 items. Additionally, a social media addiction scale was used, consisting of 18 items. The results indicated that the level of cyberbullying among the study sample was moderate, while the level of social media addiction was high. The results also indicated a statistically significant positive correlation coefficient between cyberbullying and social media addiction among the participants of the study. Furthermore, the results showed statistically significant differences in the levels of cyberbullying and social media addiction based on gender in favor of males.
